Part of the A34 at Congleton remains closed after an accident this morning.

Police and highway officers were called onto busy Cheshire Road near Cocksmoss Lane just before 8:30 this morning.

Cocksmoss Lane will remain closed as it has been blocked by police cars. Motorists are advised to choose other routes.

A Cheshire East Highways spokesman said: “The A34 Congleton Road is currently closed between Cocksmoss Lane and Pexhill Road.

“Please follow alternative routes and drive with extreme caution due to the current road conditions.”

There is no evidence of injury.

A car is recovered from the crash site

Congleton Police initially tweeted a photo of one of their vehicles in the middle of the road blocking the route to traffic.

A board with an accident warning can be seen behind the vehicle.

There were reports this morning from Cheshire East Highways of ice in the Congleton and Monks Heath areas.

CEC Highways said: “A number of reports of ice on the network, particularly the A34 between Congleton and Monks Heath.

“With Cheshire East currently under a yellow weather warning of ice until 11am, please use extreme caution on treated and untreated surfaces.”
