AS Roma director Morgan De Sanctis is in intensive care after a car accident in the Italian capital on Tuesday evening. The 43-year-old former Italian goalkeeper was hospitalized after a serious incident in Rome’s busy Via Cristoforo Colombo.

De Sanctis was operated on for an abdominal haemorrhage in which his spleen was removed.

It is assumed that he will be conscious and in a stable state after the operation.

The Italian, who represented Udinese, Napoli and Roma throughout his playing career, returned to the main club in a backroom role in 2017 after retiring.
