Chandigarh (Punjab) [India]March 28 (ANI): A candlelight vigil was held in Chandigarh on Saturday to seek justice for victims of a road accident that killed three people last week.
Friends and family of the victims gathered in the plaza in Sector 17D of the city center and asked why police had failed to catch two defendants who had fled the scene.
“Two people who were in the car at the time of the incident are still on the run. It’s been six to seven days and the police can’t catch them. They are 18-year-old children. I want to know. We’re calling for one rapid trial in this case, “said Vishal Pandita, brother-in-law of the victim Ankush, who succumbed to his injuries.

Kanti, the wife of Ram Prasad, said tearfully, “Ram Prasad returned from work. I had to walk to so many places to find his body. How will I take care of my children?”
In the March 20 incident, a speeding Mercedes rammed a Maruti Ertiga taxi and ran over two people on bicycles near Radha Swami Satsang Chowk on Airport Road in Mohali.
One of the two cyclists, Ram Prasad, and two passengers in the taxi – 22-year-old Dharampreet Singh and 29-year-old Ankush Narula – died in the accident.
An 18-year-old was arrested by Punjab police in connection with the incident on Sunday. According to the police, the defendant is a Chandigarh resident and does not have a driver’s license.
“He was drunk driving the car. A criminal case has been recorded under sections of India’s Criminal Code,” the police director-general said in a statement. (ANI)
