Romel Khalife, Lead Client Accountable Executive at Cerner in the Middle East, explains why his high profile project with American Hospital Dubai is a groundbreaking initiative.

When did the partnership with American Hospital Dubai start and why is it unique?

It started in early 2020 when American Hospital Dubai was looking for fully automated clinical and business processes through a digital transformation program. Unique to American Hospital Dubai is that it is managed under a framework program that enables the hospital to provide seamless patient travel, increase efficiency and provide high quality and affordable care. This is a major transformation; Hence, the organization’s change management aims to drive communication, learning, and governance for a seamless journey. Additionally, the data and reporting strategy that American Hospital Dubai and Cerner are pursuing will enable the company to report on key performance indicators that are consistent with both the hospital’s and Al Mulla Group’s vision, while performance across the board Company is optimized.

What is Cerner doing to transform healthcare at American Hospital Dubai?

We are currently implementing the latest Cerner code, and after going live with human capital, finance and supply chain modules, Cerner will integrate the hospital’s clinical and business operations to improve patient care, reduce costs through efficiency, increase productivity and performance to encourage and strengthen employees, satisfy and optimize workflow systems. Measure of value is the key to the success of our implementation, which we link to the Quadruple Aim. The goal is to improve the patient experience, population health and employee experience, and reduce healthcare costs.

Despite some skepticism, the pandemic has demonstrated the importance of AI in modern healthcare. What do you think of this as a provider of AI solutions?

Covid-19 escalated the use of AI and demonstrated its incredible value in predicting health outcomes. From machine learning models that can predict the likelihood that a Covid-19 patient will need an intensive care unit, to models that divide the population into priority groups for vaccination, to models that try to understand the possible waves of infections ahead in To predict certain cities or districts, experiments are popping up from all over the world. These projects are still on the scale of the American Hospital Dubai and the hospital’s data lab. Because of this, the framework that American Hospital Dubai has built is ready to take other facilities on board and incorporate big data into these predictive models with a broader value for the UAE population.
