A child is dead after an accident on Wednesday morning in Glendale.

Just before 10:30 am, the Glendale police report that a family of five is entering the Walmart near 56th Avenue and Northern Avenue. The family consisted of three adult women (the children’s mother, their aunt, and their grandmother), a 3 year old man and a 4 year old woman. The family was crossing the parking lot and heading north on the sidewalk when they were hit by a vehicle.

According to Detectives, a 68-year-old woman drove a black Nissan Frontier. The driver stepped back from a parking lot, stopped, and then walked back into the parking lot. In the process, she ran into a parked car, jumped on the sidewalk, and hit the family.

During the impact, the 4-year-old woman was pinned under the car. The pickup also managed to hit two other cars while trying to secure the truck before it came to a stop.

Witnesses began resuscitating the child before paramedics were on site. When paramedics arrived, the 4 year old with life threatening injuries and the 3 year old with non life threatening injuries was transported.

The 4-year-old woman died in the hospital.

The children’s mother was taken to hospital with a non-life threatening illness and the grandmother was treated on site. The child aunt suffered no injuries.

Detectives are still actively investigating, and the Nissan Frontier driver’s name has not been released.

There is currently no evidence of driver impairment, according to Glendale Police, suggesting that the incident may be pending charges.
