HUNTSVILLE – A McCreary County woman who tried to provide assistance at the site of a multiple vehicle accident at the SR 63-SR 456 intersection on Tuesday, January 26, was hit by another vehicle and seriously injured.
Wendy Taylor, 43, of Pine Knot, was flown from Huntsville to a Knoxville hospital at 9 p.m. after an accident.
According to a preliminary report by the Tennessee Highway Patrol, three vehicles were initially involved in the accident, and a moment later a fourth.
The report submitted by THP soldier Jacob Wisner showed that a GMC Yukon driven by Terrence Hughett (34) from LaFollette in 2002 was traveling east on SR 63 when it collided with a Chevy Malibu driven by Archie Newport from Pioneer in 2005.
Newport’s vehicle was in the left lane trying to turn off SR 63 onto SR 456. Hughett’s Yukon hit the Malibu and then turned into the west lane of SR 63 where it collided with a Ford Ranger driven by Allen in 2008 West, 48, of Oneida.
All vehicles came to an uncontrolled stop on the road. Taylor, who was traveling in a vehicle that was not involved in the accident, got out of her vehicle and tried to help the occupants of Hughett’s vehicle when a fourth vehicle – a 2011 Nissan Altima owned by Carmen Brooks, 39, got out Clinton – came over the hill and hit the Yukon. Taylor was then hit and seriously injured.
Taylor was flown by Lifestar from a landing zone on the Huntsville Middle School soccer field to the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville.
According to the THP report, none of the drivers of the four vehicles involved in the accident were injured.
