Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Tuesday his government is taking a holistic approach to health care in the country, focusing not only on treatment but on wellbeing as well.

Speaking in a webinar on the effective implementation of the Union budget provisions in the health sector, Modi said the budget allocated to the health sector is now phenomenal and shows the government’s commitment to the sector.

The Prime Minister said it was time to take healthcare accessibility and affordability to a new level for which the use of modern technology is being increased.

To keep India healthy, the government is working simultaneously on four fronts: preventing disease and promoting wellbeing, access to health care for all, improving the quality and quantity of health infrastructure and skilled workers to work on a mission mode to overcome problems, Modi said.

The world has noted the strength of the Indian health sector during the COVID-19 pandemic, he said, claiming that respect for Indian health care has increased during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the future, the demand for Indian doctors and paramedical staff will increase worldwide, he said.

The Prime Minister also said the country needs to be prepared for increasing demand for Made in India vaccines.
