Children across Northern Ireland will have free access to dedicated online courses this week so they can learn basic skills and coping skills in a fun way.

Holisitc Kidz NI is running online sessions as part of Children’s Mental Health Week to help young people through these troubled times.

Classes take place on Monday, 1st, Tuesday, 2nd, Saturday, 6th, and Sunday, February 7th at 10.30am and Thursday, February 4th at 4.30pm. Each class lasts 25 minutes and teaches basic skills and coping strategies in a playful way. A 5-minute meditation is held at the end of each session to ensure that each child feels relaxed and rejuvenated.

The two weekend courses also include a guided meditation which is very useful for relieving stress and anxiety, introducing children to the concept of calming through breathing, improving self-esteem, and really helping children feel happier within themselves.

Holistic Kidz NI was founded in 2019 by Colette McCartney and is the first wellness company of its kind in the early years. It prides itself on bringing its relaxation magic to the children and youth of Northern Ireland.

Colette said, “The past year has been a stressful time for children of all ages. The schoolchildren were deprived of their routine overnight, and no doubt they took up the worry the adults felt around them.

“It can be very difficult for all children not to see their family and friends, to teach at home, and to spend so much time at home – especially if they don’t really understand the gravity of what is going on around them. And unfortunately, this can have resulted in some children exhibiting behavioral and emotional changes.

“Since the beginning of the pandemic we have seen increased demand for our services and we are delighted to be able to work with parents to bring our relaxation spells to many homes across Northern Ireland. We have created a Bundles of Zen” guide that can can be downloaded for free from our website and is full of positive affirmations, meditations and exercise ideas.

“And as part of Children’s Mental Health Week, we’re excited to host a series of free, holistic Kidz wellness classes that really help kids and teens develop the basic skills and coping mechanisms they need, not just to get them through to help the stress and fear of being blocked, but also in the years to come. ”

“There are also so many simple things families can do together to make sure this time at home is fun and not as stressful as most of us feel right now. For example, go outside as much as you can, go for a walk, go on a nature hunt, or spend time in the garden. Meditation is wonderful and it is amazing how connecting with our breath can instantly help us relax. Most importantly, talk to your child. Encourage her to tell you about her day and her worries, ”added Colette.
