We are a married couple. We work side by side to make our dreams come true. Whether it’s renovating our 30 year old farm or tackling an investment property – we do this together, we are a great team and we do it all. We both love to see old things useful again – I think people find us interesting because they can watch us transform or grow things into something beautiful or useful.
We know a lot about hard work and a little bit about growing seasonal produce.
We love to see families excitedly see what we do on the farm. Whether you know us personally from farmers’ markets or are friends with us on Instagram, we love to share with people (especially children) where their food comes from.
The most frequently asked question is: Why MEYER Produce? That’s a great question because neither Ben nor I (Molly) belong to Meyer. When Ben & I bought the Products Shop & Farm in 2016, it had a 30 year reputation. 30 years in the CU community selling high quality seasonal products. Ben and I considered changing the name, but we were suspicious of changing it for several reasons. We were new to the game and had a lot to learn and didn’t want to hiccup a very loyal customer base. And we wanted to show some loyalty to Jeff Meyer, the man who started it all and gave us the opportunity to have this lifestyle (which we love so much). 6 years later, in 2019, some good friends invited us to dinner and started the question “Have you thought about changing the name?” along with some great pointers on how the company’s look and feel had changed and that it was now obvious that there had been a change of ownership. This conversation really enlightened us – our hard work renovating the farm and business was starting to show! -We then knew it was time to change the name! But choosing a name for a 30 year old company is DIFFICULT. If there are expert names, send them to us! We thought about it. We’re in no rush to change, we know good things take time. But seriously, we could definitely use some ideas!
What problems do we solve? I like to think that we are helping to bridge the gap between the consumer and their food. We share how we grow, care for, harvest and sell our plants. We have big hearts for our community and want to bring them education, entertainment and inspiration as we share our agricultural journey with them. Our biggest outlet for sharing is using Instagram. We share “Did you know?” Frequent Posts – Posts about fun farm facts you may not know. In our stories we share our daily farm life with our two dogs Sheba & Violet. My favorite little joke about us is, “We’re a married couple who work together – dogs in tow. We love to share our unique rural life, be it through delicious summer products or online via our newsletter and our social channels. We would like to give you a little taste of what it is like to lead a farm life. “We want to bring everyone the joy that a farm has.
We combine holistic and conventional growing practices – this allows us to grow a wide variety of fruits for our local markets that traditional organic growers don’t normally grow due to the pests that our core IL fruits simply love.
We have just opened a farm stand for the first time! It is open on Wednesday afternoons from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on the farm. We may add more hours in the future and check for updates on our social channels and website.
We would LOVE if people signed up for our farm newsletter! It’s a weekly email (usually sent on Friday morning) that keeps you updated on what’s going on on the farm, where you can find our products. This is the best way to find out about what is happening on the farm. We will also let you know which products we have available!
