Nearly 5,000 people in the Greenbrier area lost electricity in a car accident in Chesapeake on Tuesday.
According to a press release, the accident occurred around 12.40 p.m. in the 1000 block of the Volvo Parkway.
Police said an SUV was driving off Kempsville Road towards Greenbrier Parkway when another car turned left in front of the SUV. The driver of the SUV got off the road and hit a power box.
The driver of the SUV suffered minor injuries, the statement said.
According to company spokeswoman Paula Miller, over 4,700 Dominion Energy customers were affected by the blackout.
At around 3:15 p.m., one person was out of service. Dominion estimates that power will be restored between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. when the power box is repaired.
