GASTON COUNTY, NC – Two people died on Thanksgiving after a single vehicle accident in Gaston County, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol confirmed.
It happened on Thursday morning on Highway 321 south in the Hardin Road area. Highway Patrol said it was raining at the time of the incident. Officials believe the vehicle was aquaplaning, pulled off its right shoulder, and hit a tree.
Both occupants in the car died on the scene. Their names have not yet been published.
NCSHP is investigating the crash. Highway Patrol soldiers believe the tire conditions and excessive speed contributed to the crash for the weather conditions.
Law enforcement officials said it is common for drivers to accelerate on this stretch of the road and speed monitoring checks have recently been carried out in the same area.
At this point, no further information about the incident was released.
