A 16-year-old boy was in the hospital in the intensive care unit last night after an accident.

Another teenager was also injured in the accident shortly before 11:30 p.m.

A police spokesman said: “Police responded to a report of a single vehicle collision with a car near the intersection of Knapton Hill and Idle Acres Road, Smith’s.

“Upon arrival, the officers discovered that two of the four inmates, both men aged 16 and 17, were injured in the collision.

“The 16-year-old who didn’t respond remained trapped in the vehicle and had to be rescued by Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service personnel.”

“Both of the injured were taken by ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment for their injuries.

“At the last check-up, the 16-year-old didn’t react and is placed in the hospital’s intensive care unit. The 17-year-old was cared for and dismissed because of a leg injury.

“The driver of the vehicle, which was badly damaged, was arrested on suspicion of driving while impaired, but then passed the breath test.”
