An unidentified firefighter from the No. 7 Township Fire and Rescue Department was injured and died in an accident on Brices Creek Road Thursday.

According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol Trooper Lamp, the volunteer firefighter’s vehicle was the only car involved. No further information was released at this point.

The firefighter does not appear to be a Craven County employee, and the terms and details of the single car accident are not yet available. It could take the Highway Patrol to finalize its investigation and file its report, Lamp said.

The firefighter reacted to a car accident on US 70 at around 1:45 p.m. Other units of the department reacted to the crime scene and freed their comrade from the vehicle and supported the emergency services with patient care, according to a press release.

“This is an extremely difficult time for everyone involved, but as a department with the support of other first responders, we are working diligently to support the family of the fallen firefighter and offer them our deepest condolences,” the department heads wrote in the press release. “Out of respect for your privacy, we will not publish any information about the firefighter involved in the accident until we have received permission from the family.”

This accident is still under investigation by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
