Naugatuck Police Department just announced the arrest of a 41-year-old Waterbury woman charged with a fatal accident in the city on October 11, 2020.
According to a press release we just received from the Naugatuck Police Department, Joie Cascella, 41, of Deepwood Drive in Waterbury, was arrested at North Church by the NPD after a nearly five-month investigation into a fatal two-car accident last October Street (Rt. 63), near the intersection with Mill Street. During the investigation, it was found that Cascella crossed the center line while driving along RT. 63 and struck head-on with an oncoming vehicle driven by Carol Gironda from Quinn Street in Naugatuck. Gironda suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene. A passenger in Gironda’s vehicle also suffered serious injuries as a result of the collision.
Investigators – The Naugatuck Valley Collision Investigation Team was staffed by Naugatuck Police Department Sgt. Matthew Savoy, who was also assisted by officers from Cheshire, Middlebury, Naugatuck, Plymouth, Watertown and Wolcott.
Cascella has been taken into custody and is on numerous charges:
- Second degree manslaughter in a motor vehicle
- 2nd degree attack with a motor vehicle
- Illegal operation of a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol / drugs
- Reckless driving
- Failure to drive on the right lane
- Travel inappropriately fast
Cascella had a $ 500,000 bond and will appear in Waterbury Superior Court today, March 4th, to face the judge.
